Sausage Stuffing Recipe
Do you love a stuffing that is full of flavor? We do! We like to add flavor by usingHatfield Quality MeatsRecipe Essentials Sweet Italian Sausage, it’s perfect for our stuffing! We brown up the meat and toss it right in! My mini chef likes to nibble on the cooked sausage, so we reserve on the side for her too. 🙂 You don’t even need to season too much since the sausage is full of flavor.
My family prefers stuffing on the dry side rather than soggy stuffing. We then dowse it with a ton of gravy. 😉 I use a combination of bread to get the perfect stuffing. I buy fresh bread the day before and also use dried stuffing mix in one of those bags. We only use about half, so you can even double this recipe if you get 2 packages of the Sweet Italian Sausage.
For us Hatfield is local and we were able to find them in our local Acme supermarket. They’re from Pennsylvania, and we love to support local companies whenever possible. Have you tried their bacon? Oh boy. It’s delicious!
While the meat is browning, we mix the bread and veggies with chicken broth.
A simple tip for getting the perfect chop on your sausage, we use a potato masher to really break it up!
Whenever I make food, I make enough for an army. We always have leftovers, and we love coming up with creative ways to use those leftovers!
Try ourLeftover Stuffing Muffins recipe using this Thanksgiving stuffing recipe.
Once you bake this, the bread gets softer on the inside and crunchy on the top from baking. Pure perfection for Thanksgiving, pass the gravy and mashed potatoes, please! It’s funny, growing up I wanted nothing to do with stuffing. My grandma stuffed the bird with a boxed stuffing, and everything was soggy and strong flavored. Since I met and married my husband Chris I’ve been making it homemade. For the first time in my life, I loved stuffing. I love it so much that we make it year-round, not just on the holidays.
If you like your stuffing with more meat you can do 2lbs of Sweet Italian Sausage and if you like it a little more mushy just add in a bit more chicken broth. 🙂 That’s what I love about stuffing, it’s so simple to make and it’s SO good to eat!
